Bead Blasting Abrasive

Sand blasting abrasive media is what gets the work done when you combine the abrasive with a blasting system. The abrasive strikes the surface and removes material from your part(s). Within each abrasive description you can also find helpful material safety information (SDS) regarding safety surrounding each media type.

Prices subject to change without notice, please call, fax, or email prior to ordering/quoting. All containers are 50 pounds and an additional handling charge will be added for pails.

When choosing an abrasive, it is important to always consider your safety and the safety of those around you. Abrasive blasting produces dust. Always understand the implications and ensure you are taking appropriate safety measures. We especially draw attention to NOT USING SILICA BASED SAND or abrasives that contain any silica. It was discovered decades ago, that silica in sand can be released during the blasting process and pose grave risks to the user. Cyclone has never and will never encourage or recommend the use of any abrasive that contains silica. We carry a full line of blast abrasives that are not known to contain harmful silica and work much better than sand. What you choose depends on what you want to blast and what finish you are trying to achieve.

Glass Beads

Description

Available in a wide range of sizes, glass beads are one of the most popular blast media used in sand blast cabinets today. This all-purpose media is used for honing, polishing, peening, blending, finishing, removing light burrs, frosting glass and cleaning most light foreign matter. Paint, rust, scale and surface residues are some of the common removal uses. Glass bead blasting generally will not change dimensional tolerances and can detect weld and solder flaws.

Glass Bead Blast Abrasive Details

  • Glass beads are environmentally friendly, they are usually made from recycled glass.
  • Glass bead abrasives are relatively aggressive at removing material yet leave very little behind on the surface
  • Glass beads are silica free (Always follow all appropriate/recommended safety precautions regardless of abrasive type!)
  • A variety of "grit" sizes are available.
